Resume
Writing : General Rules

-
A résumé should be
concise, grammatically correct, and perfectly spelled. Constructed in
clauses, not complete sentences.
For example:
Managed business office staff. Interviewed prospective employees.
Languages spoken: Spanish, German.
Don't distort or
exaggerate your qualifications or experience.
Your resume should include
-
An employment
objective: Name the specific position you are applying for, or, if
you are applying for a number of positions, you can state your overall
employment goal. Just make sure it is specific to the job or industry
for which you are applying.
-
A list of relevant
skills: These could be included in your employment experience
section, but also may be highlighted a separate section. A relevant
skills section can include second languages spoken, computer and/or
technical skills, and/or relevant course work.
-
A history of your
education and employment: Your educational history should start
with your most recent degree. It's not necessary to list all the
colleges you attended, only those where you received a degree; include
your GPA only if it is reasonably high. The employment history should
begin with your most recent job, with past jobs listed in reverse
chronology.
-
Additional
activities: This section can include volunteer work,
extracurricular activities such as membership in clubs, professional
associations, or other organizations, as well as academic honors,
scholarships, or published work.
Information about
how to obtain references: Don't put references on your resume;
simply indicate that references are available on request at the bottom
of your résumé.
